The Georgia O'Keeffe MuseumThe Georgia O'Keeffe Museum is the first museum dedicated to the work of a woman artist. What better way is there to appreciate an artist than by preserving their work and displaying it for all to admire.
The Museum opened on March 17, 1997 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, home to O'Keeffe from 1949 until her death in 1986. The first exhibition curated at the museum was done by Juan Hamilton. That is the same Juan Hamilton who helped, assisted, and encouraged O'Keeffe when her vision was failing. In its first four years, the museum attracted over one million visitors from around the world. The museum has a vast, permanent collection of art work by O'Keeffe which includes over 130 paintings, watercolors, drawings, and sculptures, making this collection the largest in the world. During the year, the museum rotates approximately 50 of these works so visitors have a chance to see something different the next time they return. If you would like to know which exhibitions are currently on display or plan for a later trip, you can visit the website (http://www.okeeffemuseum.org/indexflash.php) for all the information. The museum is unique in that it offers several educational and outreach programs. Some services offered by the museum include internships, workshops and seminars for teachers, art programs during the summer or after school for children, and a lecture series. The Museum is located at 217 Johnson Street (near the Plaza), Santa Fe, New Mexico, 87501.
